In 2007,
Erik V. Lundquist was staffed as the City's Climate Action Coordinator to, with the help of the Community Resources Commission (CRC), create a comprehensive program to address climate disruption. While the City is committed to addressing its local contributions to climate change, City initiated actions alone will not meet our community wide reduction goals. Successful GHG reduction strategies must include participation from the
residence and
businesses of Calistoga as well as the municipality.
Calistoga Climate Action Plan
The City of Calistoga has joined with the Napa County Transportation and Planning Agency (NCTPA) to participate in the Cities for Climate Protection (CCP) campaign, sponsored by the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLE). As a partner in the CCP campaign, the City will:
- Conduct a greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventory and forecast to determine the source and quantity of GHG emissions in the City;
- Establish a GHG emissions reduction target;
- Adopt a Climate Action Plan (CAP), which, when implemented, will meet the local greenhouse gas reduction target.
CITY COUNCIL ADOPTS GHG TARGET!
On August 18th, 2009 the City Council adopted Resolution No. 2009-070 establishing a GHG reduction target of 15 percent below 2005 emission levels by 2020 and supporting
certain countywide and local actions to achieve the reduction target. These draft actions will be used in the preparation of technical and feasibility analysis that will assess; the feasibility of actions, projected GHG reductions, estimated investment and timeframe and process of implementation. Once completed, the Draft CAP will be prepared and circulated for public review.
A Preliminary Draft Napa Countywide Climate Action Plan is currently being circulated for public review.
