The City Council from time-to-time establishes local advisory boards, committees and commissions by ordinance or resolution. These advisory bodies are responsible for making recommendations on a variety of topics to the City Council for consideration and final determination.
The City Council recognizes there is a vast and largely untapped reservoir of talent that exists among the citizenry and encourages public input and citizen participation. The City Council appoints representatives to various local and countywide advisory boards, committees and commissions (boards and commissions).

The ACTIVE TRANSPORTATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE directs its activities to improve bicycling, walking and other active modes of transportation within the City of Calistoga. The Committee is made up of five members. Applicants must reside within the Calistoga Joint Unified School District boundaries and have an interest in improving bicycle and pedestrian travel within the City. Meetings are held on the 1st Wednesday of every month, 4pm. The Council will appoint two (2) members to this committee, each of whom will serve a two-year appointment.
The HOUSING ADVISORY COMMITTEE advises and makes recommendations to the Calistoga Planning Commission and City Council on how best to implement the Calistoga General Plan Housing Element and City Council Goal 2: Promoting the community’s existing and future housing needs. The Committee also provides input on the development of the new Calistoga Housing Element. The Committee is made up of five members. Applicants must reside within the Calistoga School District boundaries. Meetings are held the 3rd Monday of every month, 10 a.m. The Council will appoint three (3) members to this committee, each of whom will serve a two-year appointment.
The GREEN COMMITTEE advises and makes recommendations to the Calistoga City Council on how best to implement the Calistoga Climate Action Plan and other initiatives as directed by the City Council. The Committee is made up of five members. Applicants must reside within the Calistoga School District boundaries and preference will be given to individuals with expertise in sustainability. Meetings are held every 2nd Tuesday of every month, 3:30 p.m. The Council will appoint three (3) members to this committee, each of whom will serve a two-year appointment.
The PLANNING COMMISSION is a five-member decision-making body that reviews and approves a variety of land use applications, including conditional use permits, design review, subdivisions, and variances. The Planning Commission also makes recommendations to the City Council on proposed changes to the General Plan, zoning ordinance and other land-use related matters. Planning Commissioners are expected to work cooperatively with residents, business owners, developers, and staff in carrying out their duties. Experience or knowledge of architecture, construction, engineering, land use planning or real estate is highly desirable but not required. Planning Commission members must maintain primary residency within the city limits of Calistoga. Meetings are held the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of every month, 5:30 p.m. The Council will appoint two (2) members to this committee, each of whom will serve a two-year appointment.
