PROJECT SUMMARY
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
FINAL MAP
Sever weather, such as high winds, can cause trees or debris to damage equipment. If there is dry vegetation, this could lead to a wildfire. As a result, PG&E may need to turn off power temporarily during severe weather to help prevent wildfires. These events are called Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS).
The microgrid will provide 48 hours of continuous power to PG&E customers in downtown Calistoga and the surrounding area during a Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) event.

Please note that as of September 25, 2024, the microgrid is currently under construction and the date it will be operable is to be determined. In preparation for wildfire season this year, the temporary microgrid has been installed by PG&E for use during Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS).
If you had power during previous Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) you should have power during any current PSPS events.
Calistoga Temporary Microgrid Map
As of September 25, 2024, per Energy Vault, the construction on the microgrid is complete and all major equipment has been delivered. Installation of electrical wiring for power and communications and piping for the hydrogen system is in process. Work on utilities, drainage, fencing and the fire road will continue through the month of October.
Mid-Oct: Site mechanically complete
Mid-Oct to Early Nov: Cold commissioning work for controls and communication testing
Early Nov: First fill of the LH2 tank on site
Early to Mid-Nov: Hot commissioning of the electrical and hydrogen systems
Late Nov: System Operational
Energy Vault cannot speak to PG&E’s intent on future deployment of the temporary microgrid. It is assumed that if the new microgrid passes commissioning and is operational that PG&E won’t bring back the temporary microgrid next year.
